It was a studio project from my semester. I did the juxtaposition and photoshop render, the rest did the plans and the sketchup models. At the back of my head, i had been thinking, "Oh i ought to take some time off to post this, cause I think it was a job well done" It is funny that when i did decided to post it today, 5 months after producing it, I thought, "Goosh did I once thought this was good?! It was less than awesome" The renders here have been re-edited by me just an hour ago.

School is taking its toll once again. Just so much to be done yet I spent this day resting for the lack of sleep on sunday night and staying awake for 2 full days with just over 2hours of rest gets to me sometimes.

Today while jogging, I spotted a man in shirt and trousers teaching a 5 year old, Joe, how to skate. I am not a pro at inline skating, but i wanted to go over, to say hi, to perhaps teach the kid whatever I knew. I stood catching my breath and observing. After some time, I turned away seeing that Joe could somewhat skate and his grandpa was doing a not bad job. I kept glancing at my watch, I have tonnes of work at home waiting, I thought, but my heart doesn't want to leave.

I thought about how one can make an active decision to change lives and shape people with every little things that we do. I recalled the times in Philippines, and how impressionable the kids can be. Maybe one day when Joe becomes a pro-skater, he would remember that a stranger once taught him how to.

"And if I turn away, I will grow up, get a job, get married and grow old…on my deathbed, an angel ask, 'would you like to find out what would happen next, if you hadn't turn away?' I said yes, so here I am, back again, I wouldn't let myself down."

I hate my head telling me something while my heart says another. Sometimes I think I am too much a control freak. While at other matters, I am too emotionally driven, I confound myself and thats stupid. I am illogical, possibly a day dreamer, but at the same time a believer of fate-lies-in-your-own-hands, ask and be given.

Seek freedom and find yourself captive of your desires. Seek discipline and find your liberty.

I am pretty proud of myself for skipping telly and choosing to go jogging today. If I had all my issues sorted out, homework done, I wouldn't feel so shit about myself today. The day could have been better. It just sucks that my head and heart are poles apart on planet zinc.

Long skirt cut and sew from an old grandmother PJ that I thrifted.

The fabric has an awesome pattern, which is the entire reason why I bought it.

I finally pull the fabric and the elastic together for a project I had plans for since a year and a half back.

My case for procrastination is real serious. But glad its done, none the lest. While I was at it, I repaired the zipper on a red dress and sew two buttons.

One of the first few projects I started this hols, and the last few that I am gonna post. I started out with white thin yarns that didn't make my cut. Being the person that I am, I just had to remake one.

School is starting, coming monday and I have mixed feelings about it. I am usually eager, but this time, its a combination of distress and anxiety for weeks. My reflexes uses that word for self-pity. But the person I potentially can be, tells me that self-pity is just shit and gets you nowhere. Seeing that my new year resolution involves mainly my not being the damsel in distress but Mulan in shiny armor, I need to be way stronger than me.

SAI HUA KUAN's CAGE

This is page off the catalogue for the "Animal Talk" exhibition at the Esplanade, Jendela till 2 Jan 2012. I participated in Sai Hua Kuan's interactive piece, Cage, and it was an interesting social experiment. Its a human size cage that can comfortably seat 3 full grown ups. As I was in that cage for 15mins, I counted 35 ply cage bars that are about 150-200mm apart and prolly ~2500mm high. In my other spare time, it was enjoyable to stare down the visitors. Most Singaporeans avoided our gaze.

My friend and I picked the busiest time to enter the cage. Hence it was a surprise to most when they exited the gallery only to see us in the cage. The kids asked their mothers if they can enter as well. Interestingly, the children are the ones who really do look at us like we are a novelty. There is a difference when you look at a kid without the cage and when you do. I think they are less scared of you when you are behind bars. The parents simply avoided looking and they tried to answer their children's queries with as little reference to us as possible. We are a very mind-our-own-businness sort of nation on the whole, I think. Only a Westerner spoke to me when he realized I was observing him. We were instructed not to speak, so I shook my head and I was asked if we had biscuits and water. It was an interesting experience. If only we could have taken pictures.

I believe if done else where, it would have been so different. I can only imagine if this was public performance art or it was done elsewhere with a different culture. Elsewhere more vocal, might have been an interesting play of taunting and or stare downs. May be hugely fun.

The design is a delightful playof inverted spaces and mirrored views. It can be view in both orientation andis highly influenced by artist, M.C Escher’s idea of concave and convex spaces.The design hopes to inspire and spur thinking through a minimal yet highlyintriguing form.

This was my entry for the Toshiba Canvio deign competition in august this year. No prizes, gotta get it right next time i guess. My design wasn't in the directions the judges wanted, judging from the winning entries

Its a 30mins design I gotta say. But it also seem like I'm pretty off the mark if you look at the winning entries. They are umm, of a different direction.

There are owls, there are men who literally wears spectacles and become part of the spectacle. amongst them is a man who watches us and we are watching him. So whose watching who exactly?

I secretly thrive in the concept behind this. Its not very well-executed, but maybe I'll built on the idea next time.

The experience was great.

All the nonsensical chitchat with my mates were emancipating. I mean, how often do you truly laugh and you remember? This was one of those times for me.

I kinda always feel that painting has to be done on your own. I mean, its an expression of yourself and who you are, so working on one piece together some time cramps your style. But I love this piece several of us painted together, perhaps its the momentum from painting a superbly long wall in philippines and the team dynamics that we share. And I'm finding that getting to leave every little mark on the wall, squinting to decipher Van Gogh's every wee strokes and marking it, 4 pairs of hands on a patch of small void deck wall's kinda fun.

The old people I spoke to in the estate gave positive feedbacks and reactions to this initiative. This Van Gogh void art gallery was a project by social creatives. (You can check out their site.) At the time when we were painting this, in June or July this year, (pardon my bad memory) it coincided with the real Van Gogh art exhibition in the ArtScience Museum in Marina Bay Sands. The idea of bringing the art to the people fit even more aptly then. I would go on about the Macpherson estate and how there should be more art for the common man on the street even in housing estates, but this initiative is not mine to comment on so, thats that.

On days alone, the residents, mainly the old uncles and aunties around the estate would stand serendipitously behind me. Me, I can't paint properly with people observing, I have this need to address them and thats when we strike conversations and I love it. One uncle even offered me some suspicious food in a plastic carrier. I politely refused initially, at the back of my head, images of 'kueh' or 'pao' flash by. He said, "take it and eat it, I have a lot of these at home" in spoken mandarin, gesturing the bag to me. I coyly asked whats in the bag and the uncle unwrap it to show me instead of tell me. I took a sweet.

This was a project which started 2 years ago as a farewell present for a friend and was only recently completed. Ridiculous i know, but its all sweat and blood from a group of us, all but me, who can't knit for money, and all tried to contribute a small portion to the scarf. It looks good on photo, but it is in fact undulating with increasing and decreasing knits along the way.

I think I am getting too old and restless for group projects, surprises and contributions. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't still have them.

This is a new post since I stopped from a few months back due to school. I used to be highly anal about posting chronologically and I guess the same applies to my way of dealing with my life. I may be highly flexible when it comes to other people, but when it comes to myself, I am freaking rigid and wants as much to deal with a process I can agree with. Its not all bad, but I need to loosen up.

I will start committing to this blog.

And I hope for it to not be another empty cheque. I've issued too many to myself already.

Epoxy and CARDS

UBIN ROUGH-IT-OUT IN MAY 2011

I've been to camps in Pulau Ubin, but not like this. It was a good immersion trip before really going to the Philippines. No running water for shower, check. Mosquitoes, check. Ugly toads, check. Open air kitchen, check. Sleeping bags and on the floor, check. Yes, we are still in Singapore. And Pulau Ubin belongs to the East coast GRC, the uncle driving the van told us they belong with Pasir Ris.=) Guess the election heat doesn't reach Pulau Ubin.

The 2 storey structure with the creaking open riser stairs had looked very unreliable. The next morning testified to that. Just before we left, the thin ply that was bracing the underneath of the 2nd storey came piling down together with a chunk of timber from one of the floor joist. *wide eye* i know. Ah kok had intended to had those repair that day when we were there, but he postponed it because of our stay. Good thing too.

Well i'm pretty sure its still safe, it just speaks of the age and conditions of the house that we stayed in. Nonetheless it was a good pre-expedition trip to forewarn us. But really, the village in the Philippines was a whole deal better. At least for us as visitors. They feed us well.

MC ESCHER INSPIRED. Escher is my artist reference, his work, concave and convex (1955) is my art source for my first project of the semester. Using the principles of his geometry I created my architecture proposal with basis in it. More on it when i update d portfolio site.

Its been freaking long since I last posted.

For the last 4 months, I actually felt like it was the closest I have come, to finally glimpsing architecture at a distant. It is like you are on one side of the magical barrier, hungrily looking into the vast landscape beyond. Beyond is the land of possibility where you want to be, but all you get to do now is to go figure how. You play staring, searching for anything at all that may give you a clue as to where and how to enter. I'm starting to taste the air on the other side of the magical barrier and I AM SUPER EXCITED.

In short, my studio this semester with D.T. was very enriching. This is what I had believe architecture was about when I signed up for it. For the longest time, no tutors could be clear about it. Looking back, it was frustrating to not even have known the could-bes. Architecture can be so impossibly exciting and I for the last 4 weeks felt that adrenaline. It wasn't secondary motivation like producing an impossibly well-made model that was driving me to work. It was the idea behind the project that I want to realize. It excites me, still.

This sort of adrenaline is SO rare. As a design and art student for many years now, I have been producing works, sometimes its a long project, sometimes its a one-off, to feel this excited about a piece of work from start to end is SO freaking rare. These are the times when your body is telling you that you are passionate about this, you are in a relationship with that work.

This christmas DIY

Tying elastic bands for beaded bracelets: after beading one loop, tie the normal right over left knot (like how you will tie 2 handles of a plastic bag together, then left over right, right over left, alternating and tying several times to secure it. Apply clear nail polish on the knots and allow it to dry. leave the varnished-knot for now. Then to further ensure that it is secure, i do a second round of beading and repeat the tying method then apply nail varnish like before and wait for it to dry. Finally, tuck the knots into the beading hole.

I saw and drill the wood to get the C and a hole to thread the chain through.

This Christmas is filled enjoyable time with my friends. 2 friends surprised us by turning up (in person, with 8 kois and cheeky presents) completing our 8-man gathering for the first time in a long long while. With another group of friends, just walking the malls, sharing similar passion for shopping chilling and hanging out makes a warm and fuzzy xmas. With another group of friends, i "party-crash" with a friend and spent an awesome night playing drinking games and getting tipsy.

I am appreciating my close friends ever more. They make life so much easier.

My christmas eve with my family fell short of my expectation. Nothing went right. Wrong place, Wrong mood, wrong restaurant, wrong food, wrong dress up, wrong timing... Back at home, family still makes it right.

Right now, i kept questioning myself how i should live. i want to listen to myself, but i want to make right life decisions as well...

Over the Christmas Hols, i invested my time on making 3 canvas pouches, elastic pearl and beaded bracelets, wooden "C"-for-Cristal necklace, 2 rings etc for to gift xchange. DIY gifts is time consuming and tedious but even more so, i hate to be insincere.

This christmas present was prepared for a child in a children's home.

i was there for the event. 9th december 2010.

Nothing very weepy. They are just like any normal kids who are all vying over beyblades and soccer ball for a christmas pressie and shouting "korkor, jiejie" loudly and asking how to spell words too difficult as they scrambled to write appreciative notes before we hand them their wishlist present. Th caretaker had said "give the cards to them (the kids) to write first before handing them the presents, otherwise you are never going to get it back!" yea, we hear her. The boys were rowdy and excited, the girls are shy, chatty but reserved...

I have never ever shopped so long in a stationary store, it was honestly difficult to get presents for kids. My 9 year old kid wanted a fake handphone set. yea, i know... what in the world? hahah, instead, i got her an educational toy plus some stationaries because i just HAD to get her something useful. Im beginning to think like a parent. Getting the gift was an arduous yet enjoyable process as i recalled and reminisce my childhood.. When did we stop using a pencil and start using a pen? Would i be happy getting this when i'm 9? Should i get all stationaries (more practical and useful) and skip the toy? (kids get bored with the toy after a while, i did after a few plays)...

Seeing some kids upset over the presents they have received, i was worried my 9-year old wouldn't like it. But she did. She is this cute girl with curly shoulder length hair, big eyes and looking like she has a heart-full of love to give. After handing her the present, in her PJs and wet hair, she disappeared upstairs. Just before we (the volunteers- i don't like the term because it sounded like they are needy and there are sympathies involved, but i cant find another word) took a group photo, several kids ran down to intercept the picture. More excited shouting and kids scrambling down the stairs to make it into the picture. My 9-year old ran over and hug me round the waist posing for the picture. Then she was finding her words and explaining in an excited voice that she liked my present (my educational toy=) i am glad she didn't find that inferior to a fake handphone set.

OIC portrait day's held like 1 or twice per month, these are sketches that were done in 20mins. All d artists will gather, sit around and do quick portraits with whatever materials they are comfortable with. At the end of 20mins, the subject gets his/her pick at which ever drawing that catches their eye. Drawings are hung on pegs on that portable clothes hanger thingie (photo one). You earn $10 if the subject decides to buy your drawing. I wonder if anyone's thick enough to just walk away...

done using plaster bandage, bro's project which i helped. cos apparently he needs to keep that gaping expression. Third photo is one we faked for his project submission. =3

INSTRUCTIONS:

It is done by cutting plaster bandage into small pieces, triangles recommended. dip the shapes in water and immediately slap it in place, fill up the area fast and apply 2-3 layers. The plaster cast will loosen when it dries up.

I woke up today not to a brand new day but a day of dull and emotional swings.

I end the day outside feeling that i grasped the feeling of novelty and found the renewed vigour for inventiveness that i sought in my craft as a child. The love for making, the love to present something highly exquisite. It was somehow lost along the way. At that time, everything was simple. I live to make and explore and that was all there was to it. Now, everything becomes complicated and everything is weigh to measure if the value for doing something is worthwhile. The craft was compromised. I missed living to the extreme just for my craft. No computer, no handphone, no worldly commitments and complex human relationship.

[extract] Indonesian architect Eko Prawoto creates places of contemplation and self-reflection using bamboo, a simple yet resilient material, in both his work Tapestry at the Concourse and Theatre Street Cones from 10 April to 2 May as well as The Temple at the Esplanade Waterfront from 17 April to 2 May. Inside The Temple, there will also be performances featuring the Indian and Chinese flutes as well as the oud (pear-shaped string instrument) at 7pm and 8.15pm daily. (source)

I attended a workshop conducted by Mr Eko Prawoto. He is really nice person, readily answers all our questions, no matter how minute. And i heard from someone else he taught a group of indonesians to rebuild their homes (i think they'd lost their homes to natural disasters etc) using bamboo (eko prawoto's very skilled with this material) and they were really thankful to him. The temple was build by these same group of people whom he had helped. I guess it was in return of his favour.

None of these were used. these are in chrono order, earliest to latest designs. and lets just say that towards the end, i still couldnt understand the direction that the brochures should go n there was not a lot of info to steer me in the right direction the exhibition wants to be in. Sometimes, truths work better. i'd rather be told what than to keep playing old maid or maybe its just an issue of taste.

i'll never get use to saying ARTS-SDE bash (even though this is the official name) heres the next few teaser posters + logo which i designed. Lots of good that came out of all these. esp. the logo design, my original was scheme 0. then the rest gave ideas and express wishes for it to feel like it is an invitation stamp instead. one that goes onto the corner of the invite. Which was cool in my opinion. I'll never have thought it that way, or perhaps, it would have taken me longer to think it this way. Hence, the birth of scheme1. this is my artistic interpretation on the colors and font after what was requested. Then, scheme2 n 3 are further refinements proposed by 2 diff ppl.

I actually felt that i've learnt much. Im playing the role of a designer who wishes to satisfy her clients (my pds) but not compromising what i am as a designer. For Scheme2 n 3, i would never have wanted the fonts to be white. Like it is something i will never have thought of doing. But the end result is surprising.

I guess this applies to almost about everything i design. As a designer i see only what i wish to see. I should be receptive and open to ideas and solutions, cos there are many answers to a question in design.

Lately, I feel that I have been caught up with too many senseless things.

It is like you should be doing so much more, but there you go... bumming around. Your rational mind tells you no. Your heart tells you to go, go ahead, rebelling against your principles once in awhile ain't a big deal. Besides, there is always time. Then i ask (myself), but this didn't happen just once or twice, for so many many times, all i ever do is to give myself leeway. Freedom. Too much. So much that I am not sure what I should and shouldn't be doing anymore. Do you understand this frustration?

These days, everything that goes wrong seem to be attributed to Time and Discipline.

Time is now an extremely sensitive topic for me. several incidents, blah blah blah. i need to work on not remembering.

Then again, Why so serious? Someone said this to us in class. (lets call him Mr B) these 3 words made me rethink my position and question my understanding on doing the right thing.

Am i too serious? I might never find out. I can change for what i feel is the better, but then again, how do you know that what i feel which is for the better, is better? If i try to feel like Mr B, I might just tell you optimistically, that the times i spent bumming around might actually come in useful as an experience in the future. So why so serious?

I spoke to a friend whom just said that she's going for viola class now. I was surprised. "the next paper is on thursday..." i bemused. "I don't care about exams one..." she grinned at me. I look at her and think about all the things i want to jump into. Like, i really envy her cause its like she knows what she's after in life. i think it only make sense to do what you want now. All the talk about 2012 is another reason why we should.

But, i am not made to function like that... with all that 'confuse' genes inject into me from birth. N I am not complaining about my oldsss. They did an awesome job with me. Somehow along the way, things caught up. I hear things, I see things, I learn about things. My innate characteristics coupled with my experiences, makes up who i am now. I'm 78% water, 22% confusion.

I wonder what will become of me if i chuck all my rational thoughts (which can most likely fill 3 long scrolls) into the bin. Maybe I'll emancipate from all of this shit i'm feeling. I am not exactly in my calmest state. My state fluctuates. And i do not think it is according to my menstrual cycle. Sometimes, i think i has got a lot to do with the weather.

I wont be finding the answer to my question anytime soon.

I long for when i can grow up and be comfortable with my own thoughts, actions and desires. to fit rightly in my own skin. to understand what i am after and to take the right steps to see the port after this long long voyage.

To make my project work, i hunted for gunny sack sellers. Lucky me, i found one! i mean, how common are gunny sacks these days? Took a cab down to the industrial park and entered this amazing factory/warehouse space. I've never been to a space like this. It is wide enough for a really huge truck to pass.(about 4lanes) and each unit has huge front, some with half drawn metal shutters. The shopfront averages 2 storeys.( see drawing and how minute the person is. in fact i think the person i drew is too big) It was a long stretch of "passageway" light only penetrates from the start of the walk to the end and artificial lighting from the factories/warehouse. It is dark, i am alone, and the place feels mechanical? It feels like i entered the building the wrong way and really what i was seeing were the back of the company where everyone works. but no. it really is the front.

The uncle's nice n helpful, i chatted a bit with him. bombarded him with polite questions on gunny sacks and its business potential.

StOOLS THROUGH N THROUGH

ugly acrylic stools that made me so upset cos they wouldnt BOND.

Back in my feb 7, 8 entry, it was all about "stooling the stoolss". Heres the end product after much unnecessary struggle. 27 five centimeter stools all hand made. (yes, no laser and i filed the ends to smoothen it) It models after Alvar Alto's E60 stool. The 27 stools are the main modules of a larger installation, not shown here. (will photograph it at the end of my semester)

Initially, we laser wooden ply stools. no, not awesome enough, bears glue marks and some edges split. (Bcos you know, its plywood, they are layers of wood stuck together)

Then it was acrylic, paid some unnecessary $$ and got myself stuck with a material that doesnt bond well. Not only do you see superglue markss, you see chloroform (acrylic glue) marks. It was a disaster. (see 7feb entry when i burn thru the night)

I was so upset with myself because then i felt like a complete failure to not be able to produce a model that reflects my idea. REdoing my stools into what you see above is part of a ritual. I grit my teeth and spent the next 3 days after school (which isnt alot of time) redoing it. To have to make everything from scratch was a crazy idea right from the start. People i told, thinks im crazy. But to me, its something psychological. I wanna know that i have the tenacity to work through it and make precise models. Precision means a lot in architecture. Going through this ritual, i want to prove something, to know that I can. Theres room for improvement to my model. there always is.

To mapped out an exact plot of land, the few of us who were crazy enough pull twines and use tape to grid the entire piece of land then map out the vegetation. Personally i like it. I think this should be what it is all about. This is the dynamism that i told the interviewers that i would be expecting, studying arki. I'll never be bored doing what i do.

HUO So is it always about storytelling?

SF That is a key word for architecture. You have to find a story to tell, which is a difficult thing to do when beginning to work. There is also a danger of the architecture becoming little too literary. When I started a job with the Glacier Museum in Fjærland I had to exhibit ice. It is very difficult to put ice in an exhibition as it disappears! We had to decide what to do about this and we started to see the possibilities offered by the glacier. The building itself became a kind of glacier. As you move up the platform you enter into the mysterious world underneath the glacier.
There you can begin to see what happens between the glacier, the water and the sand. The building itself became a kind of object. I think the reason why people have been so interested in this exhibition and it has been so popular is that the building itself tells a story, like a glacier. From the top, you can see the landscape, but when you go down underneath it becomes more mysterious. You look up and a glacier is there. I have not been on a glacier but I it makes me scared when I think about falling into a deep crevice. In the museum, this became transformed into a tiny light coming into the exhibition hall from a small configuration up high. This would create a real feeling of being underneath something, and is the dramatic element I mentioned. It is also a little story. You should always start with that and what to exhibit. I refused to have a story about what the glacier meant for people in that area in everyday life. I didn’t like that, to have to tell it from such a specific point of view.

HUO I wanted to ask you about Brussels, about this transparency, which almost means that, the building is never in the way – similar to the Duchampian idea where transparency means there is nothing in the way of viewer. In Venice there is a similar situation with openness. So I wondering, in terms of these seamless transitions between inside and outside, which is something that also appears in a lot of your buildings, could tell me a little bit about this notion of seamlessness?

SF That was, of course, inspired by Mies. He made beautiful drawings in which he was very sensitive to where the roof meets the platform. He doesn’t try to bring light from heaven. He doesn’t make any holes in the roof. He regulated the light in the rooms in other, fantastic ways. There is also the story about Berlin, the Berlin story about Mies’ museum there. It is 8 meters high. It is a masterpiece in the handling of light. And he brought nature into the museum – trees and objects that fight together, creating a sort of duel between nature and culture, in a way. The object itself fights to live together with nature and also culture. Nature was having a dialogue or a duel. This is the Mies period. And the other was Le Corbusier.

HUO Both in the Brussels pavilion and also in the Venice pavilion you spoke about a very special, shadowless Nordic light. Could you tell me a little bit about this light idea of your museums?

SF I was thinking of protecting the paintings at the time and was not thinking of Nordic light, but when the building was finished the Italians said that there was a sense of Nordic light in this building. I was glad about that, especially as I wasn’t thinking about it. It happens often in architecture that something is added to a building that you hadn’t thought about.

(zinc: emm, Fehn is very honest here. Writings everywhere claims that the pavilion wanted to show the nordic light in Scandinavia countries, hence the design:) but im still in awe. The design came out more from a need than a desire for a certain ambience.)

HUO I was also interested in something which appears in many of your exhibition and museum designs, which is the inclusion of mobile elements, such as mobile windows in Venice. It reminds me of the room in Hannover by El Lissitsky, the Abstract Cabinet. Also some other early 20th century exhibition designs such as by Kiesler where things are constantly moving. The exhibition design is not a static design but a dynamic design. Could you tell me about the importance of flexibility and dynamics?

SF It would be a dream for a museum to have a system where the rooms could change to suit the kind of pictures being exhibited or displayed. When you have big pictures you need a bigger room. When they are smaller, they need more intimate spaces. Imagine finding a system that could adapt in that way. With that kind of facility at your service, you could have complete harmony between the content and the construction of the building. It is a technical question for the curators that could be posed to them in a simple way. To have such a system you need a neutral light that is flexible, because you cannot have one room in a dark corner and then another in a light corner.
The light must be about the same quality if it is going to work. That is the problem. As part of the Venice Biennale I constructed, at that time, a wall system that could fit into the construction or the model of the building by putting in sliding partitions which means you could close off the whole building or put in some small room because you had the same light everywhere."

I have been thinking that i ought to be grateful, modest and live with more deliberation. Whenever i thought of all the people who placed their faith in me or have hopes that i can, I feel this warm and fuzzy feeling deep down. I am able to study what i am studying now not because i entered purely based on merits. The interview i had with the two prof got me where i am today. Im not sure, but they must have believe to any degree, (no matter high/low) that i fared okay enough to be here. Their belief put me here, and ill always remember and be grateful.

i sometimes feel that im such a let down, but ppl still continued to place their faith in me. it is all very puzzling. and when they do, i feel all sorts of emotions running across me. mostly guilt.

when emotions come pouring, you know you are alive and kicking.

MONSTER BABIES

Was doing grocery shopping today. first i saw monster baby one crying to mummy and daddy when she didnt get to buy her ice-cream. Thats throwing a hissy fit totally. Worst thing was her parents LET her/felt sorry for her and tried to coax her with ice lemon tea.

Monster baby two was a dictator. dictating what to pay first and screaming no!! to her mummy when things were not in order. From the amount of candies her mama was buying her, monster baby two was one spoilt child.

Monster baby three tripped and fell the moment i saw him. he got up with ease and pretty quickly. mama was bothered. he tugged mama's not too opaque and light sundress and then the screaming row began. baby three's mama scolded him and the last words i caught before they got onto their car was monster baby three screaming, "shut up lar!" to his mama.

i definitely ain't spoilt, rude and a dictator. i was a good kid who listens to the adults, polite, not spoilt bcos i never get what i want.

But i was one fussy kid, i cried to mummy in kindergarten when the teacher had a full face of acne and i was scared of her. Funny i knew that the real reason was too embarrassing to be told, and so i never did say it to anyone until years later.

I came back from Melaka today. That place is old and beautiful. But the sun's a killer. One afternoon and i got charred. Where the shirt touches the skin, it hurts. I'll be relying on my collection of sleeveless tops for the next week or so.

The tutors are slave drivers and im probably gonna be tied down for the next week. But i shouldnt complain, im a willing prisoner.

EXTRACT FROM MARCH 2009

I was told that the jacket look like that of a sushi chef's. agree. I sewed the red sushi chef jacket (that will be my first made from scratch clothing, yea!) and that black halter dress is my second project. (also from scratch)

But terribly, just when i was gonna iron the supporting halter strap when i set my iron's heat too high. The moment i iron it, "sizzzzzzzzzzzllll..........shit........". ("shit" was what i said.) It was a small patch, but its still a burnt hole. So lazy as i am, i tried to mend it by patching some black cloth over. I didnt quite pull it off, even though i tried to convince my mum that its totally a sort of design to have a rectangular patch on the strap, strapping across your collar bone. Absolutely. Mum ran out of words to say and just blink at what i was holding. The unconvincing black cloth mess that was a lump in my hands. Clothes dont look the same when they are not on a support aka mannequin aka human figure aka a coat hanger(at least). I was determined to prove it wearable and i wore it out on sunday.

It prove to be okayy and i paired them up with black leggings.

I am considering redoing the halter strap to make it look a tad bit professional. But its not because of what mum said or the look of disbelief she gave. I might have over exaggerated a bit here. But i know she wont be reading this. So its okayy.

This was one tacky shirt which i'd bought on impluse and a huge mistake.

so to hell with it and i snip snip off the tackiness of it. or i hoped.

There used to b an extended amount of thin black and white strips that would create a im big, illusion at the hips. v.v tacky. i snipped it.

There used to be a black and white stripped neck band. tacky. i snipped it. n by a lot, eating into the far behind.

i stood back and witness the rebirth of the tee, then realize something unbalance and lack-of-character of it all, so, snip snip. holes on both side of the sleeves.

i like.

im proclaiming my love for arki.

dyed shirt.

dylon cold dye plus batik wax to seal away the positive areas.

the effect's not super duper gd thou.

patches on the shirt fades off after several washes, but still quite arty farty.

so thats ok.

I feel that a part of my life is settled. like everything is finally coming to a short pause. A bit like taking a midstop after a short trek up bukit timah. A bit like reaching the top step after a long climb up the stairs to timbre at old school. A bit like watching a 2012, feeling the adrenaline rush, then a sudden change of scene to a more mundane one relaxes you a bit but still sends anxiety across you. A bit like swimming up to receive your first breath of air after a deep plunge into the quarry, but wanting more.

Everything feels good. Things hadnt go the way i expect them to. But no one can predict tml, must less the future. So i'm still feeling hopeful. i dont ever admit to emotions which will make me vulnerable in life. feels great that im being truthful this once.
